Barry Paul Professional Pianist

Biography

Barry Paul is an accomplished and dedicated pianist with over 15 years of live performance experience. Born in South Africa, Barry's family immigrated to the United States during the mid 1970s. Having taught himself to read music at a young age, he went on to study classical and jazz piano at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the University of North Texas.

Barry Paul has enjoyed regular engagements at some of the top hotels, clubs, and restaurants throughout the Dallas metroplex. In addition to appearing as a soloist at Kirby's Steakhouse, the Fairmont Hotel Pyramid Room, Obzeet, the Hilton DFW Lakes Executive Center, Canyon Creek Country Club, and the Cafe de France, he has also performed regularly at corporate events, weddings, and other functions. One of Barry's greatest thrills was when he took the stage in front of an audience of thousands at the Bronco Bowl with legendary guitarist and songwriter Denny Laine, who was sideman for 11 years in "Paul McCartney and Wings" and was one of the founding members of "The Moody Blues". Barry has also performed with Gordon Waller of the popular 60s band "Peter and Gordon", Dallas Observer R&B Singer of the Year Nominee Sonya Jevette, and the renowned Dr. Don Verne Joseph Big Band.

Barry's solo piano style reflects a wide range of influences and is rooted in the jazz, blues, and classical tradition. His repertoire consists of interpretations of popular songs by composers as such as Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Franz Lizst, Oscar Peterson, and Billy Joel, to name a few. Barry's strength as a musician lies in his ability to please his audience with a great song from any era.
